How Cycleping works
What is a ping?
A ping is a tap by a fan who is watching a live race. There are three pings:
- Sprint is starting: the sprint is about to begin.
- Final 10 km: the last 10 kilometres have started.
- Major attack: someone is going for it.
When do I get an alert?
As soon as 3 different fans ping the same moment of the same race within a short time, every other fan gets a push notification, for example "Major attack. 14 fans pinged. Watch now." Our team can also send an alert when something big happens. You do not get an alert for a moment you pinged yourself, because you are already watching.
How do I send a ping?
Open a race that is live (it has a Live badge) and tap the moment you see. After your ping, the button shows "Ping sent" and a sheet tells you how many more pings are needed to alert the others. Pings only open while a race is live.
Why was my ping not accepted?
If you see "You already pinged this race. Thanks!", your earlier ping for this race was received and already counts. Thank you for helping the other fans.
Are alerts always on time and correct?
Alerts come from fans who watch on different TV channels, streams and devices, so a moment can arrive a little early or late. We do our best to keep alerts quick and reliable, but we cannot guarantee every alert. Only ping what you really see: false pings spoil it for everyone.
Which races are in Cycleping?
Today's races are on the Races tab: "Live now" first, then "Later today" by start time. Start times are shown in your own time zone. Races from today until the end of the season are in My races.
Not getting alerts?
Check these, in this order:
- Push alerts in Cycleping. Open the app, go to Account and make sure Push alerts is on.
- iOS notifications. On your iPhone, open Settings, Notifications, Cycleping and turn on Allow Notifications. Also turn on Time Sensitive Notifications, so alerts reach you during a Focus mode.
- Focus and Do Not Disturb. If a Focus mode is on, allow Cycleping or time-sensitive notifications in that Focus.
- Your plan. On the Free plan you get alerts for WorldTour and Women's WorldTour races. Other races need Premium. With Premium Plus you only get alerts for the races you picked in My races.
- Log out and in again. In Account, tap Log out, log in again and allow notifications if iOS asks. This refreshes the link between your phone and your account.
- Internet connection. Push notifications need mobile data or Wi-Fi.
Still nothing? Email info@bynker.be with your account email address and the race you expected an alert for.
Account
I forgot my password
On the Log in screen, tap Forgot password and enter your email address. You will receive an email with a link to set a new password. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive within a few minutes.
How do I change my country?
Go to Account and tap your profile to change your country.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Account and tap Delete account at the bottom, then confirm. Your account, your pings and your race picks are deleted right away. This cannot be undone.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. If you have one, cancel it first in your Apple Account settings (see below).
Plans and subscriptions
Which plans are there?
- Free: alerts for every WorldTour and Women's WorldTour race.
- Premium: alerts for every race on the calendar.
- Premium Plus: pick your own races in My races and get alerts only for those.
Paid plans are subscriptions bought through Apple. The price is shown in the app before you buy.
How do I change my plan?
In the app, go to Account and tap Change plan. You can also switch between Premium and Premium Plus in your Apple Account settings: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cycleping.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Cycleping, then Cancel Subscription.
You keep your paid features until the end of the period you already paid for. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
How do I restore my purchases?
If you reinstalled the app or use a new iPhone, log in, go to Account and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy the subscription.
I am a lifetime member. What do I do?
Sign up in the app with the email address you gave us when you supported Cycleping. If we send you a confirmation email, tap the link in it. Your account then gets every paid feature, without a subscription, and Account shows "Lifetime member". Do not buy a subscription. If Account does not show "Lifetime member", email us from that address and we will switch it on.
